When a patient of acute gout visits a doctor usually the patient is advised taking of oral Colchicine maintaining increased frequency may be every hour till there is no intolerance symptoms observed like: Nausea, vomiting or abdominal cramps. The gout remedies  besides colchicines are non steroid anti-inflammatory drugs abbreviated as NSAIDs to be taken orally. Occasionally corticosteroids are also given for short duration to get quick and enhanced response. In very severe cases the corticosteroids are also injected in the joint.
 
The role of NSAIDs is to affect reduction in the inflammation occurring due to deposition of uric acid in its crystalline form in the joints. There is no relation to the level of uric acid found and the deposit of crystals in the joint. The very often use of NSAID is Indomethacin or some times Naproxen and are taken daily by oral route following the individual dose recommended by the doctor. The very commonly used oral corticosteroid is Prednisone tablets. The corticosteroids are known for their quick response and patients start feeling it within few hours also.
